# What You'll Need:

→ Turkey Patties

01 - 1 lb ground turkey
02 - 1/4 cup breadcrumbs
03 - 1 large egg
04 - 2 tbsp finely chopped red onion
05 - 1 clove garlic, minced
06 - 1 tbsp Dijon mustard
07 - 1/2 tsp salt
08 - 1/2 tsp black pepper

→ Toppings

09 - 4 slices Swiss cheese
10 - 1 ripe avocado, sliced
11 - 4 lettuce leaves
12 - 1 medium tomato, sliced
13 - 1 small red onion, thinly sliced

→ Buns & Condiments

14 - 4 whole wheat burger buns, split and toasted
15 - 2 tbsp mayonnaise (optional)
16 - 1 tbsp ketchup (optional)
17 - 1 tbsp olive oil (for grilling)

# Directions:

01 - In a large bowl, combine ground turkey, breadcrumbs, egg, red onion, garlic, Dijon mustard, salt, and black pepper. Mix gently until just combined.
02 - Form the mixture into 4 equal patties, pressing a slight indentation in the center of each for even cooking.
03 - Heat olive oil in a grill pan or skillet over medium heat. Cook patties for 5-6 minutes per side, or until cooked through and golden brown (internal temperature should reach 165°F).
04 - In the last minute of cooking, top each patty with a slice of Swiss cheese and cover the pan to melt the cheese.
05 - Toast the burger buns until golden.
06 - To assemble, spread mayonnaise and/or ketchup on the bottom bun (if using). Layer with lettuce, turkey patty with melted cheese, avocado slices, tomato, and red onion. Top with the other half of the bun.
07 - Serve immediately with your favorite sides.

# Expert Tips:

01 -
  • The center indent trick ensures these patties cook evenly without puffing up in the middle, something I wish someone had told me years ago.
  • You can prepare the patties ahead of time and refrigerate them for up to 24 hours, making this perfect for those evenings when youre rushing between work and dinner.
02 -
  • Turkey patties need more binding agents than beef, which is why the egg and breadcrumbs are non-negotiable if you want burgers that dont fall apart.
  • The indent in the center of each patty prevents that annoying burger dome that makes toppings slide off and creates uneven cooking.
03 -
  • Adding a tablespoon of grated parmesan cheese to the turkey mixture creates an umami boost that makes these burgers taste more savory without adding much fat.
  • Chilling the formed patties for 20 minutes before cooking helps them hold together better on the grill or in the pan.
