01 - In a large skillet over medium heat, melt the butter. Add the onions, salt, pepper, and sugar. Cook, stirring frequently, until onions are golden brown and caramelized, about 18–20 minutes. Let cool to room temperature.
02 - In a medium bowl, combine mayonnaise, sour cream, cream cheese, Worcestershire sauce, and chives. Mix until smooth and creamy.
03 - Add the cooled onions to the mixture and stir well to combine. Taste and adjust seasoning as desired.
04 - Cover and refrigerate for at least 1 hour for flavors to meld.
05 - Transfer the onion dip to a serving bowl, garnish with additional chives, and serve with potato chips.
