Brown Sugar Overnight Oats (Printable)

Creamy oats with brown sugar and vanilla, ready when you wake up.

# What You'll Need:

→ Oats Base

01 - 1 cup old-fashioned rolled oats
02 - 1 cup milk (dairy or plant-based)
03 - 1/2 cup plain Greek yogurt
04 - 2 tbsp brown sugar
05 - 1/2 tsp pure vanilla extract
06 - Pinch of salt

→ Toppings (optional)

07 - 1/2 cup fresh berries or sliced banana
08 - 1 tbsp chopped nuts (walnuts, pecans)
09 - 1 tbsp chia seeds or flaxseeds

# Directions:

01 - In a medium bowl or large jar, combine oats, milk, Greek yogurt, brown sugar, vanilla extract, and salt. Stir thoroughly until well incorporated and sugar dissolves.
02 - Cover container and refrigerate for at least 6 hours, preferably overnight, allowing oats to soften and fully absorb liquid for creamy texture.
03 - In the morning, stir oats well. Add splash of milk if thinner consistency is preferred.
04 - Divide between two bowls or jars. Top with fresh fruit, nuts, and seeds as desired. Serve chilled.

# Expert Tips:

01 -
  • Brown sugar melts into the oats overnight creating these pockets of caramel sweetness that feel like a tiny treat first thing in the morning
  • The texture is somehow luxurious and wholesome at the same time, like eating dessert for breakfast but without any guilt
02 -
  • I once made these in a plastic container and the brown sugar smell lingered for weeks, glass jars or bowls are worth it
  • The oats keep perfectly for three days but the texture changes slightly each day, day two is usually my personal sweet spot
03 -
  • Use a wide-mouth mason jar if you plan to eat straight from the container, cleaning the sides is so much easier
  • Toast your nuts before adding them as a topping, that extra crunch makes such a difference
